The Power

Under the hood of the entry level Sierra 3500 is a 6.6-liter V-8 that GMC tuned to deliver 401 horsepower and get 464 pound-feet of torque. A 6.6-liter V-8 Duramax turbodiesel is an option and generates 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive comes standard in all trims except the AT4 and Denali, which come with four-wheel drive, and the four-wheel drive is an option for the rest of the trims.

The Capabilities

The 3500 HD has impressive capabilities. When equipped with the Duramax engine and a gooseneck hitch, it can tow up to 35,000 pounds and handle up to 5,800 pounds in the cargo bed. With a conventional hitch, this truck can tow up to 20,000 pounds, and if you have the larger cab and shorter bed, it can still haul over 4,000 pounds.

GMC added a new Allison 10-speed automatic transmission, which has closer gear spacing that makes the engine operate in its optimal range at all times, no matter how heavy the load or rough the terrain.

The ProGrade Trailering Technology

GMC’s ProGrade Trailering technology first arrived last year, and additional features and functions arrive for the 2020 model year. It has 15 different camera views, including the first-ever transparent trailer view to help the driver see around the truck and trailer.

The 2020 Sierra HD will offer the option for the iN-Command control system mobile app, which allows remote capabilities to control several of the trailer systems. Some of the actions available include turning on a trailer’s air conditioning or water heater, checking fuel levels with trailers equipped with generators, and checking water tank levels.

The AT4 Off-Road Trim

GMC introduced the AT4 trim last year, and it’s back for 2020 with even more features. It stands out in the lineup with its dark chrome exterior trim elements and detailing along with body-colored front and rear bumpers and grille surround. The front grille has a black chrome finish and includes red tow hooks. Inside, the AT4 has unique trim that includes dark-tinted aluminum finishes on the sill plates, center stack, and steering wheel.

The AT4’s off-road features include an off-road suspension, skid plates, a locking rear differential, and Rancho shocks. It also has all-terrain tires, hill descent control, and hill start assist. It’s traction select system has an off-road mode, and it offers a 15-inch head-up display with off-road Inclinometer.

The 2020 GMC Sierra is bigger, more powerful, and more capable than ever. Step into the neighborhood dealership and experience it perform beyond any of your expectations.
